New application, or shoehorning into an existing application?
If new application, what you have doesn't sound bad.  I know you are fond 
of "application only" access therefore you don't really need to use group 
profiles.  You're object creation profile sounds fine.
Requiring group profiles just requires more work on the part of the 
customers you are distributing the software too.

I have my personal dislikes of group profiles but I don't want to get off 
on a tangent.
