Client PCs running VB client application code don't use server CPW. Even so, if it runs like a dog, why would you bother?
the VB client calls into SQL database of the server. In my experience, having the VB client call an sql procedure on the 400 and get a result set in return was a very functional and flexible way to go. We were able to add columns to the result set without impacting the existing VB and Web applications that called the procedures. The only downside was it taxed the CPU of the i5 server.
Have you heard of the cliche "right tool for the right job"?
on this list I have. I think it is more of an AS400 term than you might be aware. Nowadays the thinking is more to use the flexibility of highly functional software frameworks running on generic, high performance hardware to meet the ever changing requirements of your users. -Steve
