To upgrade the LIC to V5R3M5 you will need to
#1 Install the PTFs from the CD for prepping to go to V5R3
#2 Per the Installation guide you will need to run the cmd below to expand
the Lic space
CALL QLPALCSP PARM('V5R3M5' '0') and IPL before the next step.
#3 After IPLing you will need to do a 'D' IPL in Manual Mode and 'REPLACE'
the LIC
DO NOT INSTALL
#4 The install guide assumes you are refreshing the OS as well, but you do
not need to, per IBM.
#5 Install the latest CUME, Hypers, DB and any other Group you feel you
need to.
#6 Do a SAVSYS
These are the major steps and is meant only as a guide. Please reference
the OS Installation manual

Re: V5R3M5 LIC
This is a model 800 feature 7408... do you know if that supports V5R3M5
LIC?
I've never done just a LIC upgrade without doing the whole migration... is
it a well documented procedure? (Seems to be pretty common....)

If you are on a system that will support the V5R3M5 LIC (810, 825 etc)
which are the 2nd generation of 8xx models, then Upgrade to V5R3M5 Lic
before the backup and things will be fine. If you are on a system that is
not supported by V5R3M5 LIC then DO NOT RESTORE LIC from the backup. After
the restore of the rest of the backup re-apply PTFs.

V5R3M5 LIC
We will be going to a new 520+ in a few more months and are possibly going
to stay at V5R3 at this point (which requires V5R3M5 LIC from what i'm
reading). We are hoping to stay with a fairly simple "by the book"
(Backup
and Recovery Guide) save/restore process in migrating to the new box...
what concerns does the need for V5R3M5 LIC introduce? Does it complicate
the process very much?
