Pete,I was on that council. It was a good idea that's been DEAD so long....but then, it never really had serious IBM support. We had some REALLY cool ideas for the iseriesnation.org/com pages....dead. I think Cancilla and Ignite are working with that domain now. And, I wish them luck. In short, IBM wanted the ISN to become something that actually raised their own money to pay for all the iSeries promotional stuff that they would be doing. Basically, IBM wanted to parasite off of all the ISN council, etc's, work and efforts...frankly, I don't have the market capital of IBM...perhaps if I did I'd be singing a different tune.
It basically died after Malcolm abandoned it for his UK stint and the gal that was attempting to be a marketing person totally (in my opinion) screwed up what was left of it. Anyway, she's also gone to greener pastures. Frankly, we weren't able to do jack and got little support from IBM.
Which brings up other questions: I keep reading that MH has been "unleashed". Really? Will someone please tell the rest of us where the hell MH is? If he's really been "unleashed" he's still being kept in a very small opaque and soundproof cage. Frankly, other than those short lived TV spots which were quickly cloned for other IBM product lines, I've not seen anything of merit... And does anyone know many IT Dir's that actually do palmcasts? Ditto CEO's???
BUT WAIT! COMMON's just a few weeks away, so, yes folks, once again, it's time for IBM to do some token public advertising so that at least IBM remembers what the hell an AS400/iSeries/i5 actually iS! And, the GM dujour can get up at Soundoff and say "Look at all the great marketing we did"...
Maybe we can get somone to invent a board game called: "Where the hell is Malcolm Haines?" We could use mini-terminals and printers as pieces and instead of chance cards we'd pull up CPF messages....I'm sure someone should be able to hack the HMC and port it there...you could play it in between all those LPAR configs that you bought the HMC for.... :)
Perhaps Trever can have some pins made to add to his really cool ones in Orlando that say: "iWhat?" or "Malcolm Who?" or my favorite "_This!"
So, Pete, why do we continue to care anymore? Perhaps it's because we all know the 2 alternatives - Windows and eunochs.

Being serious. Is ISN really still around? Come on, the only thing I remember from that is a cool blue button. Does the council still meet ? If so, what have they done lately?
