In the CISC days, when we had 48 bit addressing, you needed to power down
regularly to regenerate addresses.  Today, with 64 bit addressing, regular
IPLs are not necessary.  If you put on PTFs every half year or so, that's
plenty.

Can you see any reason why it would be useful to PWRDWNSYS once a week?
The person who worked here before me scheduled the system to power down
and IPL once a week. To me it seems pointless and it causes problems
every Monday morning with device communications and listener jobs. I'm
going to suggest we don't power down anymore unless there is a real
benefit of doing it once a week.

We only power down for non-concurrent hardware maintenance.  Our normal
IPLs are done with PWRDWNSYS *IMMED RESTART(*YES).
