Nope. I agree rpg is an order of magnitude better for business logic. However, I can perform magic with vb in terms of functionality, useability and vastly reduced development time. I could very likely do the same with java but, for me anyway, java development is slower and the output from my own work (i'm sure yours is tons faster!), is slower than the equivalent asp made from vb. That could very well be a factor of my lack of steady experience with java, but who knows. And, on a personal level, I have a lot of fun coding with vb. If it WERE available as a development tool for iseries, then I'd imagine there'd be a lot more interest in iseries from the schools, businesses and other programmers. -----Original Message----- From: "Joe Pluta"<joepluta@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: 9/21/05 10:26:42 AM To: "'Midrange Systems Technical Discussion'"<midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: RE: Green screen to GUI For business logic? Heck no. BASIC is a crappy language for business logic. RPG is much better. What you want is a seamless integration between a platform-agnostic UI definition language and an RPG back end. The sad thing is that IBM could do that today by tying the UML portion of Rational to a back-end RPG generator.
