probably this is the best choice if your iSeries is used in a Linux
dominant network. ( although, not having first hand experience, I have
to question why so many, the majority?, of Linux/Unix web applications
are written in PHP instead of java ).

If your iSeries networks with Windows applications you have to look at
.NET first before going with Java.   If you are looking to integrate
with SQLServer then you want to become familiar with the .NET detached
dataset approach to database applications.

For example, if an RPG program needs to read rows from a SQLServer
table, the .NET thing to do is connect to a web service and receive
the SQL selected rows back as a serialized, self describing, table.  
Another way is to have a socket connection between the two systems and
return the serialized data set thru the socket link.
