If you go to a particular web site in IBM you'll see a chronological 
timeline.  You'll see things like
- COBOL put into production
- S/3 announced
- S/38 announced
- AS/400 announced
- Rob Berendt went two whole weeks without opening up a pmr.

I'd sooner <crude comparison deleted> than not have a software support 
contract.
