Does he like working without a net? Does he have insurance on his life, health, house, and cars? What would the effects on the business be if for some unexplained reason, the system goes casters up? If you are at a lower version of OS/400 with no plans to upgrade, you're probably safe to drop support if all the PTF's have been applied. Make sure you keep support for your newest machine if it's running a more recent version of the OS. If nothing else, have a 9x5 contract. Also, make sure that your boss will never come to you asking you to support an application that you may need to get PTF's for. You might not be entitled to get them. I've seen it happen, especially with older versions. Having these support contracts is just a part of a good preventive maintenance program. It was a fight to get the Hardware support paid. Can anybody provide me with links to information on the need for the Software support? I am not having much luck. Is there a spot on the IBM website that explains what Software support is?
