Does that help? Or are you asking something else completely?

Yes that is what I was asking. And I knew most of that stuff but when I tried it (once) it did not work and not knowing enough about sockets I figured it had to be something like starting on the POP port and then not closing the connection and getting on the SMTP port 25. But from what you say I should be able to telnet in on POP (110) sign in, exit and then start a new telnet session on SMTP (25) and send email (provided I enter the commands it is expecting during both sessions and before the time out period)? If that is the case I will have to try it again.

If this is the case I would think with nat the public IP address would show it being authenticated a lot (if PC clients are pointed to the outgoing.verzion.net and authenticating) and allow the AS400 to get through at least once in a while, just by chance (I know not the way you would want it to work).

You could also put the pop program in a CL along with the SNDDST (or your own program for SMTP) for sending messages to cell phones, not for the whole AS400 mail server.

Thanks
John Ross
