Base OS is just the base for the OS not the other products. And since V4 the OS stays with the box and it will with V5R3. Now when they say base OS you will get other software, you get the no charge software, like Java, HTTP, TCP.

PDM is now (I think V5R1 and up, maybe V5R2 and up) under 5722WDS 21 Tools - Application Development

You can buy pre June 11th software ( http://www-306.ibm.com/common/ssi/rep_ca/5/897/ENUS204-085/#@2h@74@ ) from third parties. At any price they want to charge. I would think the June 11th limitation 3rd parties may want to start unloading this software, or it might make it work more. Not sure how IBM is going to know it is pre June 11th . And I have not done this so not sure of the headaches.

I heard (from an IBMer) V5R3 will be the last release for the 170, so I have to think these may go down in price.
