One recommendation from IBM is to NOT use a processor card for both tape
and disk. I had a pmr open where a newer tape drive varied greatly in
speed from IFS objects to DB2 and DLO objects. IBM claimed it was because
I was sharing a processor card for both tape and disk. I've moved some
cards around and I am waiting for the next full save. Should be May 21,
2004. In general the 3582 blows the doors off of the 3590E. That's what
had me so concerned during our last full save.
This was some of the stuff I pasted into the pmr:
We did a system save in restricted state 8 weeks ago on a 3590E
attached via 2749. This time we did it on a 3582 fiber attached
to a 5704.
Time comparisons:
SAVSYS
3590E 9 minutes
3582 13 minutes
SAVLIB *NONSYS
3590E 3 hours 9 minutes
3582 4 hours 30 minutes
SAVDLO
3590E 8 minutes
3582 15 minutes
SAV of IFS
3590E 12 hours 1 minute
3582 4 hours 51 minutes
