Hello Pete, Thanks for the input. These are all new images that were recently loaded on a brand new V5R2 box, so Type-2 is the default. I think maybe the drive isn't able to stream because of the large number of small objects. Have you ever heard of a UDFS (User Defined File System) ? I have seen a few vendor products use UDFS for creating IFS objects in the past. I have played with it and it works. For backup you simply Unmount and Back Up the UDFS object, but this seems like an odd way to handle IFS files and the IBM docs are almost non-existent. I was thinking maybe is the UDFS is a single object, the backups would be faster as well. Regards, Richard Schoen RJS Software Systems Inc. That isn't tuning the 3580, but I think you will see a difference. Pete Massiello
