A certain amount of keystroke level stuff is possible in word processing mode, but then you lose compatibility with some other facets of the 5250 data stream and can't concurrently support display formats as you know them. So ignoring WP mode, you'll still be dealing with waiting for an AID key to be pressed, and the cursor keys are not Attention IDentifier keys, as are things like Enter, F1-F24, page up/down, etc. Using DSM, you could have a program contantly performing a read immediate examing the current cursor location and screen buffers and acting on any differences found, but that is not exactly what I'd call efficient use of resources...
