Are you using Switches or Hubs? If it's switches sniffing takes extra steps.

As you may know Hubs broadcast whatever comes in a port out ALL of the other ports on the hub. With this config you can plug in a sniffer into any port on that hub and see any and all trafffic going thru it.

Switches on the other hand build internal tables of what device is attached to what port. When data from device A enters the switch the switch looks up the destination in the packet( device B ), finds device B in its internal table and only sends data out the "1" port where the device B is connected. A sniffer plugged into any other port won't see the data.

To work around the above can be done a couple ways.
#1 On a lot of the Managed Switches you can set them up to allow an port to monitor traffic.
#2 Plug a Hub into the switch and then the sniffer and the device(s) you want to monitor into that hub.

Are there any tools that are easy to use that allow network sniffing of traffic from an iSeries to M$ servers?

I downloaded a trial version of Softperfects Network Sniffer, which works great for pc based traffic but I cannot seem to get it to monitor traffic between an iSeries and an M$ server. Comments?
