You might look at comm traces on the iSeries. You can run them from a command line, STRCMNTRC, etc. Or from STRSST. The exact contents of all packets can be displayed in a report - IP packets do get interpreted.

great for pc based traffic but I cannot seem to get it to monitor traffic
between an iSeries and an M$ server. Comments?
