I've noticed V5R2 seems to have a way to enforce the QAUTOVRT values when you TELNET or STRPASTHR to the system. In previous releases it would continue to configure new devices if previously configured devices were varied off, but in V5R2 it seems to keep track of the total number of devices, preventing a connection if you exceed the QAUTOVRT value (something most probably assumed was already happening). Whether this would cause your problem I am not sure - unless you also could not get a signon display when doing TELNET to the V5R2 system. This is the message you woudl get in QSYSOPR on the target system: Additional Message Information Message ID . . . . . . : CPF87D7 Severity . . . . . . . : 40 Message type . . . . . : Diagnostic Date sent . . . . . . : 04/11/03 Time sent . . . . . . : 13:20:20 Message . . . . : Cannot automatically select virtual device. One of the following most likely occurred: the QAUTOVRT value was exceeded, the device type specified for creation was not correct for this system or the device name is currently in use. ...Neil "Shannon O'Donnell" <sodonnell@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: "Midrange Systems Technical Discussion" <midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> cc: Subject: Re: V5R2 - QRMTSIGN Problem Thanks for the reply Carsten. I had read that help text also, but I cannot remember if I read this on my V5R1 or my V5R2 system. Which OS did you get this from? In any event...when going from V5R2 to V5R1, using *SAMEPRF setting and using the RMTUSER(x) paramater of TELNET....you can log on transparently. It just doesn't work going from V5R1 to V5R2. It should...but it doesn't. Shannon O'Donnell
