You would be able to email from your AS400 as long as your network has connectivity to the outside world. The SMTP set up was suprisingly simple, and IBM's document easy to follow. We are using Solution400's S4iXP product, very versatile and fairly inexpensive, Probably overkill for your immediate requirements, but it's ease of use may inspire you to use it more. IT'll FTP, email, print, some other stuff I forget. http://www.solution400.com/ We email our customers their invoices, and embed HTML messages, links and promos with this. Some pretty cool stuff. 100% customer support too. Walk you through every step it takes to get you set up. Do other reports too, various formats available. HTML, TXT, PDF. Don't work for em, just use their product. The normal routine has been to run the queries that generated these reports and then mail them out. And obviously that takes time. We are on V4R5 (hoping to upgrade be on V5R2 real soon on a new box.) So is anyone doing anything like this ? I'm aware of some of the third party tools. So any feedback on them would be fine. Also any home grown stuff ? And this might be a stupid question, but if our AS/400 does not have a public address, is this even possible ? We have a VPN setup where folks can get to our AS/400 remotely.
