Did you mean, "use MS Excel in the first place"? At any rate, the appeal for me is, that a VB app is easily callable (yes, so is Excel, but much more resource-intensive), hence works with RUNRMTCMD just fine. It can run without a GUI. And it calls the Excel functions via OLE automation.
