Jim - I suspect that your boss is thinking of the system value QRCLSPLSTG. This specifies the number of days before empty spooled members are deleted automatically. I don't believe that this has anything to do with an IPL, though. To reduce the size of QSPL I think that you'll have to actually delete some spool files. Could he be confusing this with the Maximum unprotect field on the WRKSYSVAL screen? That shows the highest amount of temp storage used since the last IPL.
