Joe, it's refreshing, amusing, and enlightening to correspond with a zealot! You can count on me purchasing your book... Regards, Reeve p.s.: there's plenty of gibberish in this NG and none of it comes from you. -----Original Message----- From: midrange-l-admin@midrange.com [mailto:midrange-l-admin@midrange.com]On Behalf Of Joe Pluta Sent: Monday, November 19, 2001 6:12 PM To: midrange-l@midrange.com Subject: RE: Changing column names? > -----Original Message----- > From: Reeve Fritchman > > I was challenging Joe's list of 10**8 reasons why his approach is better > than everything else on the planet, including sliced bread and > canned peas. It's not my approach, Reeve, it's fundamental C/S architecture. Implementations of encapsulated servers for the IBM midrange date at least back to the 80's, and the general idea of encapsulation is even older. And while this architecture may not be economically appropriate for every case, if you don't use encapsulation, you should at least be making an informed business decision and consciously choosing against it. That's all I ever try to provide: an informed choice. Because design decisions really can be quantitatively better than one another from a pure architecture standpoint, and deciding which one to use should always take that into account. > Not that many of his points don't have some (if not a lot of merit), of > course... I'm glad to see I'm not *just* spouting gibberish.
