I was challenging Joe's list of 10**8 reasons why his approach is better
than everything else on the planet, including sliced bread and canned peas.
Not that many of his points don't have some (if not a lot of merit), of
course...

I see adding a new library (to support a new division) as a different
problem than adding a new library because you've moved your files around.
It seems to me that this sort of management task should be handled by the OS
and not the application code. But maybe I've been in the CPF-OS/400
environment too long and expect too much from other operating systems. The
idea of going into user-generated code to make this kind of change gives me
gas, but maybe this is the brave new world of C/S. As you can tell, I
require a substantial amount of education in this area!

You have "numerous" divisions? After checking out www.dekko.com, it looks
like your division numbers ought to be floating point. I doubt you ever
have time to catch your breath! You must spin plates during your breaks (if
you ever have one)...

Reeve,

Correct me if I am mistaken here. But the original argument was against
ODBC wasn't it? There was a part of your argument in which you state
<snip>
Files moving to other libraries...well, what are library lists for?
<endsnip>

First of all there is no concept of a library list in C/S programming. You
have to bury that in your connector. And yes libraries change all the
time. We have numerous divisions. When we create a new division we do not
want to change connectors on a load of PC's. Or even if you have the
classic test/production library environments, you'll have this issue.
