Simon You state the REAL situation behind the scenes. It is the reason for most of what we see. If I sell you something, and then you don't need me anymore I make X dollars. If I sell you something and then you call me every week to keep it running or to by Y number of more servers(they multiply like Tribbles) I make X + X + X + X.... It doesn't take a brain surgeon to understand why the most cost effective solution to the customer may not be pushed. John Carr -------------------------------------------- IBM, Global Services, and all the other big consulting firms make far too much money out of services and support related to Microsoft's buggy, unreliable software to ever stop selling it or complain publicly about it. The lack of service revenue associated with the AS/400 is one major reason for its slow penetration. Consulting firms are more interested in keeping THEIR bodies in work than in doing what's best for the customer. Thus they recommend Windoze and Unix derivatives rather than AS/400 and Macs. Just for kicks --- the whole concept of three-tiered architecture sucks technically but does it ever generate service revenue keeping the disparate parts communicating!!!
