Hello John,

I've heard that story too. I suspect there is a fair amount of truth in
it. Even in the capitalist oriented, profit at all costs, business
attitude of the United States that strikes me as restraint of trade.
However we've all seen the evidence that those in charge of IBM's PC
Company are a gutless bunch of wonders without the balls to stand-up to
Microsoft.

IBM, Global Services, and all the other big consulting firms make far too
much money out of services and support related to Microsoft's buggy,
unreliable software to ever stop selling it or complain publicly about it.

The lack of service revenue associated with the AS/400 is one major reason
for its slow penetration. Consulting firms are more interested in keeping
THEIR bodies in work than in doing what's best for the customer. Thus they
recommend Windoze and Unix derivatives rather than AS/400 and Macs.

Just for kicks --- the whole concept of three-tiered architecture sucks
technically but does it ever generate service revenue keeping the disparate
parts communicating!!!

Regards,
Simon Coulter.
