Retrieval speed is not an issue. Your optical library should be visible in the IFS under folder /QOPT. Try running the command: wrklnk '/qopt/*' You should be able to see the volumes. You should be able to use the CPY command with DTAFMT(*BINARY) to move files to/from the optical volumes via the IFS access. If CPY doesn't cut it, you could try FTP. We use our optical library only for storing spooled reports and images, all handled by the Magellan software, so I have not actually used CPY or FTP to access the volumes, but it ought to work.
