I've attended both, a few times. Often you have the same instructors with the same materials. COMMON gives you more sessions and choices. However, if you are physically challenged you may find hustling from building to building more of a struggle and may appreciate the IBM conference better - less spread out. COMMON used to be a lot cheaper also but I think they're closing the gap. They started losing money and raising prices after adding things to generate revenue - capitalism in reverse. I have been given a choice to attend either an upcoming Common conference or the IBM as400 conference in palm springs. I have looked at the Common session grids and thought that their classes sounded good because one seems to build on another. But was told by a senior programmer that the IBM technical conferences are actually better because they are more technical in scope. I went to their site but they did not have class sessions up yet. If anyone out there has input your opinion would be greatly appreciated. I use RPG400, SQL400, CL, and will be using JAVA in the near future. Thank you.
