boy, that's a tough one.  we used to have bonus and incentive pay, and
it turned out to be a no win deal.  instead of a gift, it was an
expectation.  

we still have yearly bonuses, but we had an employee quit over not
getting enough one year. later he actually broke into our office, and
snooped on the accounting manager's p/c to try to find out what the
bonuses were the next year!
