There are tools out there to automate the 400 Spool File to PDF. You cannot
get a burner for the 400 but you can put the PDF in the IFS and you Net
Server to copy to a burner. Down to 2 steps and can be automated by running
a remote command server on the PC with the burner. Check out the archives
for Spool to PDF tools.

Subject: Archiving AS/400 Reports to PC files

Here is our situation:

- We have many reports produced on the AS/400 which don't need to be
printed but must be saved somewhere for "possible" reference
- Today, we have a procedure that copy those reports to tape.
- I have not seen a CD Writer on AS/400 mdel 170 (am I way out?)
- I would like to save those reports on CD, so I would have to transfer
them to PC files to eventually move them to CD.

1) Can it be done easily?
2) Can I save them in a format (like Rich Text Format) I could, then,
"print" to Adobe (ie .PDF) files which we could view with the Acrobat
Reader and print them if needed (from any PC)?
3) Above scenario is only a suggestion, if you have better ideas, let me
know, please!
