You might want to be careful with your use of layers.  As an answer to IE5's
ability
to render dynamic content, layer is a proprietary extension to standard
HTML.
Worse yet, the layer tag WILL NOT be recognized by Gecko, Netscape's version
6 browser, due
out in a few weeks.  Now webmaster's who want to provide dynamic content
within a page must
support 3 ways to accomplish the same task.  Yuck!

That's just one reason of many for writing to the W3C standard for HTML and
DOM.
