Scratch Install -- MIDRANGE-L

I have never had to do a scratch install of the OS.  Recently I purchased a
used machine that had V3R6 on it.  I went to IBM and purchased V4R4.
Instead of "Upgrading" this system I would like to do a scratch install. My
questions are as follows:

1.  Is this possible?

2.  What are the steps neccessary to accomplish this?


I have searche the books online for any information on this but to no avail.
