Instead of "Upgrading" this system I would like to do a scratch install. My
questions are as follows:
1. Is this possible?
2. What are the steps neccessary to accomplish this?

Scott,

First you cannot upgrade directly to V4R4 from V3R6, you must stop at V4R1
first, so an upgrade in your case will not work.

Get a copy of the manual "Software Installation SC41-5120-03" It has all
the information you need in it. I would go to "Replacing a Release using
Automatic Installation" Chapter 4. It should guide you through the entire
process. Depending on the size of the AS/400 this could take anywhere from
6 hours to 24 depending on how long the PTF package apply takes. Make sure
to read the material that comes with the PTF package, and follow those
instructions carefully. Order a new PTF package just before you load your
system to be sure you have the most recent version.

The other thing you will have to have is all of the license keys available
when you do the load. Make sure you follow those instructions exactly.

You can call or email me with any questions if you care to.
