P Hello Mike, Why do you need to check the file format on every release? The whole point of using outfiles is that they are release independant. IBM have rules about how outfiles are created and in most cases the developers follow those rules. The rules are intended to remove release dependencies. Outfiles are created with LVLCHK(*NO), format names cannot be changed, field names and attributes cannot be changed, fields cannot be removed, new fields are added at the end, etc. There are many other rules but those are the ones I remember. If your application doesn't care about the new fields there is no reason to check it. Regards, Simon Coulter. «»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«» «» FlyByNight Software AS/400 Technical Specialists «» «» Eclipse the competition - run your business on an IBM AS/400. «» «» «» «» Phone: +61 3 9419 0175 Mobile: +61 0411 091 400 «» «» Fax: +61 3 9419 0175 mailto: shc@flybynight.com.au «» «» «» «» Windoze should not be open at Warp speed. «» «»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«» //--- forwarded letter ------------------------------------------------------- > X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.00.2014.211 > Date: Fri, 18 Feb 2000 11:17:01 -0800 > From: "Mike Shaw" <mshaw@ncal.verio.com> > To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com > Reply-To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com > Subject: Delete Records -File Re-org > > Ken, > > Setup a job schedule entry and you would not even have to dial in to run it! > :-) > > I have a very similar routine that I wrote *many_moons* ago and it has not > let me down yet!
