There is a 3rd party solution for this currently.  don't remember the company however, but the product worked well and we were able to zip up AS400 files and send them to a Unix machine.

When do you thing IBM will supply a native zip engine that will allow the ability to compress files on the IFS in zip format.  This is a needed component when trying to give file data to customers accessing information from the web server.  I cannot believe they have not ported this capability yet.  It would be nice to send report data from regular programs to the ifs and zip it with CL commands.
