The worst case I personally saw was when a company hired a senior programmer. He moved his entire family (wife & 2 kids) 700 miles. Six weeks later, the company decided that a downsizing was in order. He got canned. What a Country. Here's my attitude (which I've had since about 1988): Screw ALL companies! I don't care what position you hold, how long you've been there, or how much dough they pay you, you are still just a number. When economic circumstances are such that you services aren't needed, they'll cut your heart out. And trust me---THEY DON'T CARE. And if they tell you different, they are lying to you. You think I don't know what I'm talking about? I've seen about eight "downsizings". I have a very simple phylosophy---Use them for what you need while they use you for what they need. When either party doesn't need the other anymore, walk out and never spend another second thinking about the company or anybody you know in the company. If you could peek in my desk drawer, you wouldn't find any more personal items than I could fit into my pocket. The reason is that, if one day, my number is up, I am not going to be one of those folks with a box of personal effects...stunned as they walk to their cars. I'll be walking out quickly with a smile---thinking of my next opportunity. So much for the Global Economy huh?
