While this may be stupid depending on the situation. Any time I've left a position, I've had projects to be wrapped up and instructions to give to my co-workers. This is valuable information that would be thrown away if I had been "escorted" to the door. It really depends on the circumstances under which the person is leaving. If there is anymosity or hard feelings and if the employee had ever spoken about sabotaging the company or any such thing then it would probably be prudent to escort the individual to the door and immediately restrict all authority and change system passwords and any other passwords this person may know. But most of us in this industry are professionals and have more integrity than to burn that bridge and risk legal charges, just to get in an act of revenge against the company.
