Ken,

Here at Legacy(YUP just down the street) We do take a large downtime
QUARTERLY to do things like:

Full System Saves, PTF's, Major File REORG's these windows are approx
12hrs. 

OS upgrades right now are a 24hr window in case of problems.

We are looking into(testing) SWA. Al Barsa swears by it. You gota follow
the rules. Simplest is kick everybody off(say restricted state) start
your SWA save, once the locks are obtained(just a few minutes) let the
users back on.

In most cases you don't need a savsys unless you ptf, upgrade etc. You
can do things like savsecdta, savcfg... and the like to pickup things
that change.


If these downtimes are un-acceptable then maybe a 2nd cpu with mirroring
sw like MIMIX maybe the route($$$) you need to persue.
