Re: System backup in a 24/7 environment.

Hi Ken. I've spoken to you on numerous occassions when you call IBM 
supportline.
If you are truly a 24x7 shop and cannot go down AT ALL, an option to 
consider would be a mirroring system, eg. Lakeviews MIMIX or Vision 
Solutions OMS. This is an expensive solution and there may be other 
methods but this provides a mirrored copy of your data on a second 
system. Both systems are kept in sync. so when you need to IPL one or 
apply ptfs or releases, you switch over to the secondary machine. With 
the above two technologies, this switch over is almost real time and can 
be made very slick and seamless. 
The second advantage of adopting this type of solution is that again, if 
you are truly 24x7, you cannot afford a disaster. Using MIMIX or Vision 
allows the second system to be your "hot backup" in the event of a 
failure on your primary machine. The software will automatically switch 
you to the secondary system.
