Bill,
I have not tried all pointers types, but you can pass a system pointer as a
procedure pointer. I would guess you could also pass them as space pointers.
I have done this to return a pointer to a service program. I don't know of an
easy way to get the internal type, but if you do a dmpobj of any object it
shows the internal type on the dump. I can send the MI source if you need it,
I hesitate to post it because I am not sure the authority structure I am using
for the RSLVSP is correct, and I don't have a functional concepts manual.
Following is the prototype I use to get service program pointers from an MI
program.
DGetSrvPgmPtr PR EXTPGM('SYSPTR')
D PR_SrvPgm 10A
Program name.
D PR_SrvPgmPtr * PROCPTR
Pointer to pgm.

I want to be able to obtain a pointer to an object. (Specifically, I am tearing
apart
QRYDFN's. Yes, I have seen and used the MI RTVQRYF, but I would like to put
the bulk
of the logic in the RPG program since I don't know MI well enough).
I know I have the MI written correctly to get the system pointer, but I don't
know
how to pass it back to the calling RPG program so it can use it. Could someone
possibly point me to an example? Also, is there a table anywhere that shows the
translation between object type and the machine object identifier? I know a
library
is x'0401' and a query definition is x'1911', but I would like to know it all.
Your help is appreciated.
Bill
