  • Subject: 8mm TAR to PC through an AS/400

Hi all.

Before I begin I know RTFM, but it keeps leading me in circles.

I need to take an 8 mm tape created on a Unix system with TAR to a PC
file.

The AS/400 is at V3R2, has the 8 mm attached and the Win95 PC connected
via CA/400. I can probably find a shareware program that will convert
the TAR format on the PC so what I need to do is get the file from the 8
mm to a *STRMF on the AS/400 without any bit changes.

CPYTOSTRMF requires a database file. CPY doesn't seem to recognize
"/QSYS.LIB/TAP01.DEVD" as a valid source. CPYFRMTAP doesn't recognize
the IFS.

BTW anybody have the url for a fair utility to read the TAR and produce
a PC file.

TIA

Roger Vicker, CCP
