Two years back I did some work for Ameritech.  At that time the plan was
to go to the 12 or 13 digit international dialing scheme in the
2005-2009 time frame provided that we dont run out of numbers before
then.

Parts of Germany and Japan are currently using this 12 or 13 digit
standard and it causes major problems for US Long Distance Providers
who's switches do not have the software to handle this.  In some cases
you have no choice but to make an operator assisted call to some parts
of the world.

When the FCC or Belcore or whoever controls this, announces the
International standard phase in dates, all the telcos will stand in line
for software upgrades from Lucent and Northern Telecom.  These stock
prices should do very well with some very positive earnings surprises!
