whoops... those sound to me like "magic words".  In my naivette and fear I
am scared to death of "pointers".  Thats a PC database trick and causes
errors and disasters in that world.  My only exposure on the AS/400 with
pointers is Data Structures, and that has been nothing but frustration and
disappointment for many programmers as they chase down messed up programs.

Having said that, I also assume I am very wrong and just naive.  But if I
was a MIS manager and someone said RPG now has "Based Variables via
Pointers" I would be visibly upset and would stop them from being used if
I could.  That would be a case of "lets see how they work out in other
shops first".
