Booth,

I don't remember specifically is RPG keeps the physical file i/o feedback
area up to date for logical views, but the relative record number in the
database file's IO feedback area is the physical record number. That is,
the same record number as the physical file record. You could, of course,
store this number in a subfile if you needed to. But if memory serves me,
and it hasn't been lately, RPG does blocking and only updates the I/O
feedback area every block or so. The work around it to force unblocked
input, or rather, set the blocking to 1. Use the OVRDBF command with
NBRRCDS(1).

A light bulb just went on....

Is it possible to use Relative Record Number in a subfile on a logical
file?

Will RRN #1 be the first record in the file logically?
Or will it be the first record that arrived in it?
