Not everyone can or wants to relocate. As a divorced mom, I have a moral
obligation to keep my sons close to their father. I also have promised my sons
that they can finish HS where they started it if at all possible. I'm here for
at least 3 1/2 more years since my youngest son is a freshman.

I'm not expecting the iSeries to stay around forever. I honestly think the
fact that I've worked since 1980 as an RPG and now RPGLE programmer is pretty
good. What I do find hard to believe is that companies would prefer to
out-source and use contract programmers rather than hire full-time programmers
and keep the knowledge in-house. Last time I checked, there was ONE company
hiring contract programmers in the SF and East Bay area. Makes it tough to
find a job....

To those of you who complain about not being able to find opportunities,
open your eyes. I have been searching for a systems admin job for a
couple of weeks now. Sure, you may not have a lot of opportunities near
where you live now, but they are out there. Searching the popular job
sites, I have found iSeries programming jobs quite abundant. Seek and ye
   shall find.
