Hi Nick,
Yes, I really meant '9:'

I think that's for a pause after dialing the 9 (Not sure)

Another thing to think about is not using your modem at all!

The modem is very slow compared to what is now available with "Fix Central"
over the internet. I set this up when we lost availability of our ECS line,
works great. You may need to be on V5R3 (not sure)

Check it out from
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r3/index.jsp
Then search for Fix Central... Here's a clip..:
===============================
The quickest method to receive PTFs is through the Internet. To receive PTFs
from the Internet, connect at least one workstation to the iSeries(TM)
server that is set up to use the Internet. Do not wait until an emergency
occurs and you need to request a PTF quickly, only to find you need to
register and set up this function. Be prepared: register, set up, and
request a PTF to test the process.

IBM(R) offers many ways for you to download or order PTFs for your iSeries
server or AS/400(R) system. The various methods are listed here, but you
should go to the Fix Central Web site for details.
==============================
I did the set-up myself and it didn't work, but reported the problem to IBM,
and they were very helpful and we make a couple of changes, and in 10
minutes was ordering fixes much faster... HTH

Hi Ed,

Thanx, I've changed it there now too. But, 2 things. Did you really
mean '9:' or '9,'? And, the phone number there is different then the one
for my controller. Will this make a difference?

Thanx,

Nick

Hi Nick,
Try WRKSRVPVD "Work with Service Provider"

It should give you a list, and you should see "*IBMSRV IBM Service
Support"
listed as a control point. You can display and change the phone number
there. Put a '9:' in front of the existing phone number.

Subject: [MAPICS-L] ECS phone line

Hello again,

As long as I'm in the mood for keying messages today, here's another one.

It is not really about MAPICS, but.

We recently changed the way our phone system works, and now I have to put
a '9,' in the beginning of the outgoing phone number on anything dialing
out of our AS/400. Everything works great except our ECS line. I keep
changing it using WRKCTLD QESCTL, and then doing a 2 to change it. I then

change the phone number to have a '9,' in front of it and the system
accepts the change.

But whenever it runs, I get error CPA58D9, Call to controller QESCTL on
line QESLINE failed. Remote busy. This is caused because the phone line
is now going through our switchboard. When I look at the Controller
Description again, the system changed the phone number back to what it
was, without the '9,'.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Thanx again,

Nick
