Hi Eric,

I should have said "When I last looked at serial numbers".... I didn't
realize they had expanded it. Since I had to write my own, I haven't had
to research what it does nowadays. 19 years has given them some time to
change the system. Careless of me....

We don't do an "indented BOM" look-up per se by serial number, we look at
an end-item's serial number (after shipment, invoicing and retail, that's
how we follow ALL units), and can see all of it's serialized components on
a scrolling page (usually it all fits on one panel, however). We need that
information for recalls when vendors inform us that their microwaves may
explode when you reheat batteries or interesting stuff like that.

But since my COMPMAS serial number master tracking file carries the MO#,
the CO#, date mfg, date shipped, date invoiced (they are different since
the SEC changed the rules on billing when you also own the trucking company
that delivers your product), customer#, and date retailed, we have all the
information needed to research in COM order history, or PCC order history.
The MOHDTA file gives me an effective mfg BOM. In fact, using MOHRTG tied
to our historical labor history file that we have has allowed me to
identify what people on the assembly (or sub-assembly) area built a failing
part. Not for punishment, but to verify training (or lack thereof). Very
effective tool. (BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU!!!!! Bwah-ha-ha-ha! Oops -
sorry, got carried away there.)

Dale,
Can you look at the "top level" item and view it (with all its' components)
like an indented BOM?

Eric

P.S. MAPICS serial number is 25 but has difficulty with alphanumeric serial
numbers and it truncates leading zeros...
