Bryan, Once you learn overlays it is very easy to replicate them everywhere and it only requires a basic editor like Word to get started. It has the advantage unlike some packages in being totally iSeries based. If you go to the next level, emailing, extracting or pdfing items I would suggest a package as generic as possible to minimize the annual maintenance and learning curve of various solutions. In the iSeries area we use the suite of applications from BCD including Progen and Websmart for application development and Catapult and Spool Explorer for report manipulation. In the PC area we use CodeCharge, Visual Studio and Crystal Reports to connect to, report on and manipulate the data. Checks are a somewhat special case since you have to resolve issues regarding serialization and security. Laser printing was my suggestion and Accounting is open to the idea but would like some costs. Presently print about 200 two-part AP checks a week on preprinted forms. Do we have to buy a forms package to accomplish this? We presently hand stamp the checks. What would be the ballpark price for a bare bones forms package? On the other hand, we also line print about 200 two-part invoices a day, three-part BOL's on preprinted forms, and PO's on preprinted cut sheets for a laser printer, so perhaps we should buy a package to do it all. Any recommendations?
