Doug, What you have done so far to attack the problem sounds correct. Is the remaining problem speed or just the clunky interface? The multitude of cards combined with a set driven interface makes browser a much better tool for inquiry than data entry. In the way of performance, when we went from our old 620 cpw ~70 to our dual processor 270, cpw 2350 with 4gb of ram the problem went away. No special client or network setup needed. I credit the difference to the dual processors and the amount of ram. MAPICS with Synon applications (every file in the universe open with huge memory image) and browser batch load, mega ios is not handled well by a single processor. ODBC gets a high system priority but Synon uses all the resources limiting the systems ability to manage itself. Good luck in fixing the problem. We have been struggling with this issue for the past few months. We have an 820 with 950 cpw (P30) on a 1GB backbone LAN and our users tell us that browser is still to slow. We have been working with IBM and an AS/400 performance consultant and have made several configuration changes in the AS/400 and the ODBC driver, which have improved browser response but not as much as the users would like. The only recommendations from the consultant that we haven't implemented yet are to add another 1GB of memory to the AS/400 and force all of the ODBC connected jobs QZDASOINIT to run in a separate memory pool. The consultant says this should help but can't say how much. The biggest gains we have seen in browser performance are: Have the users setup a subset preference so their initial screen is not all records. Use PC's with lots of memory (min 512K), good video cards, and at least W2000. Our P4's with XP are better than our P3's with W2000. -----Original Message----- From: Mike Crawford [mailto:mikec@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Wednesday, September 24, 2003 10:09 AM To: MAPICS ERP System Discussion Subject: Re: Question Re: Browser response time. What OS are you running on your PCs. We saw a significant boost in response time when we moved from Win98 to Win2000. We also upgraded our network from 10Mb to 100Mb, that helped in pushing the data down the line faster. One thing is for sure, the browser is never fast enough, right?
