Thanks for your response.  Special charges were my first choice also.
However, we do our sales reporting with GPS (also known as MAPICS
Analytics) and special charges are not carried through to that module,
at least in the current release.  I know there is a new version just
coming out that may give us access to the special charge info.

Doug, You can use Special Charges and the immediate invoice option to
invoice services. This has several advantages:

- They do not affect inventory
- The do not trigger pick / pack / ship activity.
- You can have an unlimited number of special charges so you can track
them
as needed.
- You can have sales and cost rates for each special charge. Pricing is
automatic in the sense that COM multiplies the quantity   by the hours.
- COM applies sales tax to special charges as needed.
- Special charges print on invoices.

All the data that you need to track special charges is in the MAPICS
database. I am not aware of any reports or inquiries that would be
helpful.
You will probably have to write your own.

We recently converted to MAPICS XA Release 6 on an AS/400 running V5R2.
We have also started a new business segment that performs service work
on equipment.  I am interested in hearing how other companies handle
service work for customers.  Invoicing and tracking sales history and
the key areas of interest.  We don't have any need to maintain inventory
balances for the service work.  Any information would be greatly
appreciated.
