Greg, And what a sad commentary on the state of business today, that "big" customers feel they need to cheat their vendors in order to stay competative, and that the vendors feel they have to accept it to keep the business. (Either that, or the bigger the customer, the more likely the receiving clerks to underreport receipts so they can take the stuff home and sell it themselves. We're one mile from the biggest flea market in our area, so...) -- Joan Joan McCready, IS Manager phone: 636-479-4499 MetalTek International fax: 636-479-3399 The Carondelet Division www.metaltekint.com 8600 Commercial Blvd Pevely, MO 63070 -----Original Message----- From: Greg Wenzloff [mailto:GWenzloff@beckmfg.com] Sent: Thursday, September 26, 2002 12:54 PM To: 'mapics-l@midrange.com' Subject: RE: Streamlining Packing Process Hi Eric, We use a user written warehouse management system which tracks the contents of packages/pallets. The problem is that no matter how carefully you record/check what is shipped, the BIG customers often claim we short shipped them. If you want to keep the business, you have to just comply. They think that using the container concept is the answer but I do not. Here is what they are attempting to achieve: They want to be able to know what items are packed into each carton (or box or pallet) along with its total weight. For example, if they packed 10 toasters, 25 pots and 15 pans into one large box, and ship the total units as 1 parcel it weighs 75 lbs. Their customer claims that they are only receiving (and paying for) 5 of the pans. Even though they signed for the 75 lb. box. Since we have no proof (except by weight and the Packing list) and the customer is very large, we have to accept that. Is anyone else running into something like this? Thanks... Eric A.
