Not to be mean, but from what you have admitted I would say you are
ready for a management position. ;-)
You upgraded without a backup or image and to cure the problem your are
going to spend money on a more expensive solution.
Time to buy a pin striped suit and tie when you buy that MacBookPro. ;-)

I have thought of that, yes. But now that I know Ubuntu wasn't super
concerned about this, now I am concerned that it will happen again and I
will waste many hours trying to address it.
I just got back from Best Buy and reviewed their Macbook Pro's. I think
I will be moving forward with that and then use Ubuntu for the other
non-business machines in the house.

Not a pleasant alternative, but have you thought about doing a
scratch
install on a new drive and then copy over documents? Just a
